John The Baptist Catholic Church, Adoration Chapel

Baldwin Park, California

Drury Architects teamed with SVZ Construction & Deodate Real Estate to envision a new Adoration Chapel for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Baldwin Park, California.

The conceptual design draws from California’s Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial architectural traditions, while introducing contemporary influences that emphasize simplicity, intimacy, and craftsmanship. Blending historic regional character with modern sacred space principles, the design envisions a serene chapel nestled within the existing church campus, fostering quiet reflection and spiritual renewal.

Scope of services includes master planning, initial site studies, program development, and conceptual architectural design — carefully coordinated with the parish to align with their long-term vision for growth and worship. Influenced by hacienda-style courtyards, natural materials, and passive design strategies, the chapel concept emphasizes a timeless integration with the surrounding landscape and community.

This early-phase design work establishes a strong foundation for the project's future development, positioning the Adoration Chapel as a lasting sanctuary within Baldwin Park’s evolving urban and cultural context.
