Pala, California
Drury Architects was engaged to provide conceptual planning and layout studies for the expansion and reconfiguration of the VIP Players Club and Host Operations areas within Pala Casino. The assignment focused on evaluating underutilized back-of-house and guest-facing zones and developing strategic spatial concepts to enhance the overall VIP hospitality experience while improving operational efficiency.
Working within the constraints of an active gaming environment, the design approach prioritized circulation clarity, guest arrival experience, and functional adjacencies between host services and the casino floor. Existing conditions revealed fragmented planning, limited connectivity between service areas, and operational inefficiencies driven by compartmentalized rooms and irregular circulation patterns. Conceptual reorganization studies explored opportunities to unify these functions into a more cohesive and service-oriented layout.
Material direction and experiential cues were also explored at a conceptual level, drawing from the casino’s established brand language and cultural heritage. Warm wood tones, metallic accents, and layered lighting concepts were studied to elevate the hospitality character of the environment while maintaining alignment with the broader resort aesthetic
