KING OF PADEL
San Pedro | Los Angeles, CA
The King of Padel at West Harbor is a destination-scale, outdoor sports and social club located along the Los Angeles waterfront in San Pedro. Envisioned as a multi-sport recreational campus, the project brings together padel, pickleball, and beach-style volleyball courts within a highly visible and active public setting, reinforcing West Harbor’s role as a new civic and leisure destination. The design organizes approximately 50,000 square feet of athletic, social, and support spaces into a cohesive waterfront environment that balances high-energy play with opportunities for gathering, viewing, and rest. Courts are strategically arranged to maximize efficient use of the site while maintaining clear circulation, spectator sightlines, and visual connections to the harbor and adjacent promenade. A series of modular, container-based structures support the campus program, accommodating check-in, operations, food and beverage service, restrooms, lockers, and storage in a flexible and adaptable framework.
The project emphasizes permeability and openness, allowing pedestrian movement to flow naturally between the waterfront promenade, adjacent park spaces, and the club’s internal pathways. Outdoor dining and lounge areas are integrated throughout the site to encourage social interaction beyond the courts, extending the experience from active sport to informal gathering and community engagement. Designed to support phased implementation and long-term adaptability, the King of Padel is conceived as a resilient recreational landscape that can evolve alongside the broader West Harbor development. The project reflects an architectural approach that integrates sport, urban life, and the public realm, creating an active waterfront destination rooted in flexibility, community, and place.
